What does time make possible here that a still image could not hold?
Begin with the image, then return to the label, material, scale, duration, and collection context. The work becomes clearer as these clues begin to connect.
Look With This WorkReality, fiction, and the unstable story
Ma Haijiao uses video, narrative, and fiction to blur the boundaries between reality, fantasy, memory, and lies. Scenes, people, and stories appear in a condition of uncertainty. The work does not reject reality; it reveals that reality can be understood through imagination, fabrication, and self-organized fragments.
