How does the work change when you treat the surrounding space as part of the artwork?
Begin with the image, then return to the label, material, scale, duration, and collection context. The work becomes clearer as these clues begin to connect.
Look With This WorkLight and signal as spatial material
This spatial reading note places Zhang Mao - System and Suspension within the expanded DO2ON Garden installation archive. The work can first be approached through its material language: Aerospace helmet, fan, mercury switch, light bulb. Rather than treating the object as isolated, the reading begins from relationships between form, site, body, time, and viewer movement.
